1947 Whizzer motorized bicycle

I have seen these here in Florida, but none acutally in operation. A simple concept, really, add an engine to a bicycle.

i can see jack looking at this,,,,,, thinking about going back to the house and getting the ranger and buying this bike :) lol lol lol nice find! :) it would sure be a cool thing to have :) and i bet it gets really good gas mileage :) and in Florida you can use it 365 days a year! :) and from what i read the whizzer was a kit that could go on a bicycle of the day, and i think the brakes would be a kit or part of the whizzer kit, standard bike brakes would not hold up imagine :) lol lol

Congratulations, Brent! 5 stars for you! LOL! Jack

Yeah, Brent, this addition wouldn’t take up much room in the collection! :D This should get tremendous mileage..this setup reminds me of some of the very early motorcycles by Harley Davidson.
Thanks for the info on the kit aspect. I would want as much braking power as I could get on this vehicle! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

I remember a TV show, before Rockford, where Jim Garner was a Sheriff who rode something similar to this.

Yeah, Daryl…the answer to the gas crisis? :D Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

  • raconter1 says:

Wow, Brian! Boy that would strike fear into the hearts of the bad guys to see Jim coming at them on this beast! LOL! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

In 1947 most of the Whizzers were sold in kit form and you put it on what ever bike you liked. In 1948 Schwinn became involved. I haven’t seen a moped in years. Thanx for posting.

Hey, Chester! Thanks for the history on that! I really didn’t know any of that before I started filming this! It sure looks like you would want a stout bike with a good frame for this application! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

how much was it selling for?

  • raconter1 says:

Unfortunately, there was no price on that sign..but there was a phone number. I repeated it a couple times in the vid, so you might call it if you’re interested! :) Jack
